OF MUTE THINGS
of mute things is an audiovisual installation exploring the inadvertent sound world of 'muted' electronics, and seeks to develop a greater sensitivity between ourselves and our immediate, and often unnoticed, sonic environment.
The installation is for twelve or more CRT televisions connected to individual free-view boxes set to different channels. With all televisions set to mute, a number of delicate quite inaudible individual drones are created each time the picture changes. Contact microphones are fixed to each television screen and fed to its own free standing speaker. The installation is completely indeterminate as the sound depends on the specifics of each channel.
